Charlene's Family Restaurant Reviews
My husband and I ended up here after googling for dinner on our way back from the Cabot Trail. We are so glad we did! The seafood chowder was amazing - best we ever had. The price seems steep but once you see how much seafood is in it it’s a steal. We are so glad we stumbled upon this gem. Sad we live 18 hours away otherwise we would be frequent customers.
We bookmarked this restaurant before our family trip to Cape Breton, and I had the best chowder of my life here. I loved the cozy atmosphere, with a small lamp on each table, and the spacious layout that kept conversations from other tables from being disruptive. It perfectly matched my vision of a quaint, family-owned restaurant on the East Coast, and I’ll definitely be coming back.
We went twice during our short stay in Little Narrows. The seafood chowder is the absolute BEST! And desserts are fantastic. Nice that they had a good assortment of gluten free options. Friendly atmosphere and great food brought us back. Wish I could give more stars.
The clam chowder is super delicious and packed full of seafood! Everything else on the menu is really good and fresh.
Best seafood chowder! would've gone a 2nd time if we had more time on our trip! This stop is a must if you are traveling towards cape breton!
That seafood chowder was so good, we had to get it twice! Our waitress was the absolute best, though the patrons seem to be surprised by folks who don’t look like them. There’s beautiful wall art and decor to make up for it so you don’t have to see anyone in the eye. Did I mention the seafood chowder?
Stopped in on the way home from Halifax and I am so glad we did. A good friend of mine often recommended it ( thank you Jeff ) but I never had the chance to get there. The girlfriend also was wanting to get there as she saw many posts about the seafood chowder . Well I am glad we did. I ordered the fish cakes and beans and she of course ordered the seafood chowder. Service was excellent , atmosphere very nice and staff were so friendly and doing all they could do for the customers. Well the food came out of the kitchen and let me say it was absolutely delicious!!!!!! Also the meal came with fresh made tea biscuits . These biscuits were amazing. I like alot of people remember my grandmother's baking and these biscuits were just like hers . Everything was perfect and I can't wait to return to Charlene's again. If you have not had the chance to stop here then I would suggest you do . I believe they close at 7pm currently but come May they close at 8pm. I highly recommend the place.
Did a take out of the lobster chowder and fish and chips. No shortage of fish/scallops/shrimps in the chowder plus a claw as promised. Fish and chips batter was paper thin, not greasy, fish was just cooked, perfect. Fries were this battered kind I don’t care for (maybe next time I will ask if it possible to skip the batter) but we’re cooked just right. Definitely coming back.
